Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is my privelege to present to you:

The Supermarine Spitfire MkIX

First up, a plain old view of the front. In this picture, the detail of the wing is very clear. The trans-red item on the far left is the wing light - the other wing's light is green. Next are the two machine gun ports. After that are the two cannon ports. One cannon port is closed off, and the other has an extra-long barrel. Many of my diagrams showed 2 ports with only one operable cannon, so that's what I made. Up against the body, you can see what the manuals call a "gun camera". I guess that's to make a photo record of the 'action', because if it were a surveillance camera, it would be under the wing.

Also clear in this picture are the 2 air intakes. One is on the bottom of the fuselage, and another smaller one is along the side of the fuselage (in dark grey). The black things are the exhaust ports.

Second, here's a view from the back. Notice the stylish decals, and the opened gun access ports on the wing. That antenna-looking thing is an antenna - the radio is just below there.

Next, this is a closeup on the canopy structure. I tried to thermoform my own canopy with a candle and a piece of acetate, but it just didn't work the way I wanted it to, and I almost burned down my house. So this sorry attempt at a frame is my concession to Lego's dearth of large clear parts.

Here's a neat view that shows the landing gear. Notice please that the landing gear is falling apart. This sucker is heavy, and those wheels are not very strong.

Take a look at this: the gun access hatches, opened to reveal the detail. Well, you can't see the detail too well, but there's a gun and an ammo box for each working weapon - 2 machines guns, and a cannon. Finding room for all that in a wing is kinda hard, and it forces you to compromise a lot on the wing design.

Holy crap, isn't that a cool looking microwave? My, what a nice kitchen I have! Hopefully in this view you can see how the wing has been shaped and constrained by it's thickness and the physics of Lego. I wanted to make the airlerons movable, like a real plane, and I have the tech to do that. I just didn't have the space!

Finally (for now), the frontal view. Four propeller blades, 6 weapons, 2 air scoops, and two extremely strained landing gear. Amazingly, it does stand by itself. but this is definitely not a model to play with. It barely fits on my kitchen counter, and it is extremely fragile. The canopy and tailfins are only held in place by sheer willpower.
